Overview of Web 2.0

Overview of Web 2.0

The term “Web 2.0” was used in late 2004 by O’Reilly Media’s Dale Dougherty.

He stated that the Web was becoming filled with new types of applications and websites, which was the beginning of a new second phase of architecture and development for the World Wide Web.

This term was made popular by Tim O’Reilly  in establishing the first Web 2.0 Conference (http://www.web2summit.com/web2010).

A shift in how and why we use the Web:

  • new ways to do business
  • new ways of communication
  • new ways of finding and sharing information
  • user participation
